From the very beginning, the Wiesler family has attached great importance to the use of regional products and good cooperation with their suppliers. We now use over 256 regional and seasonal products and save on long transportation routes. "It is important to us to sensitize our guests to the regional products from the Black Forest. " says Klaus-Günther Wiesler. For this transparency, information signs about our suppliers have been distributed at our breakfast buffet. Once a year, the chef cooks with his guests at the Seehotel Wiesler cooking course and shows, among other things, how many ways Black Forest products can be used in delicious dishes. The chef's recipes have been recorded in 2 cookbooks, which are of course available at the Seehotel Wiesler. The sparkling wine produced especially for the Seehotel is just one of many examples of local drinks on offer at the bar. It is also noticeable in the restaurant that the menu has a vegetarian focus.
The passionate chef is the initiator and co-founder of Naturpark restaurateurs and attaches great importance to high-quality and, above all, regional food. Naturpark Wirte is an ideal tool for encouraging fellow restaurateurs in the region to become more sustainable. As a member of the Naturpark Wirte, a restaurant must list at least 8 dishes on the menu with predominantly regional ingredients. Mr. Wiesler also encouraged the restaurateurs to take part in the EMAS certification.
Klaus-Günther Wiesler likes to report on his sustainability measures not only in the hotel, but also in public, for example in newspaper interviews or lectures. Mr. Wiesler has spoken about the Seehotel's sustainability concept at trade fairs such as Intergastra. Many listeners and colleagues are inspired by this and want to see the measures for themselves on site. The press are also frequent guests at the Seehotel and report on various events. It is particularly important to him to report objectively on the measures and to encourage others to help protect and preserve nature and the beautiful Black Forest. It is also particularly important to Klaus-Günther Wiesler that guests, his employees and the general public understand that the Seehotel Wiesler and the whole team stand behind the sustainability concept and that there is no "green-washing".
Although e-mobility has come under some criticism due to new findings on batteries and the CO2 footprint, it is definitely still a sensible alternative to the combustion engine. Provided that the electricity is generated from renewable sources and the batteries are produced sustainably. Our guests therefore have the opportunity to charge their electric car at one of our 4 wallboxes for a fee – using green electricity, of course.
Since 2019, our guests receive their own CO2 certificate during their stay. This shows them how much CO2 they save during a vacation at our lakeside hotel compared to a conventional wellness hotel. The results are very impressive. A stay at the Seehotel Wiesler saves 20 kg of CO2 per person and night.
The Seehotel Wiesler is not only EMAS certified but is also one of the first signatories of the WIN Charter. In connection with this project, the children's inclusion camp "Wurzelgnome" is supported annually with donations and food.
In 2020, the indoor air quality in the rooms was measured. The results showed that guests at the Seehotel stay in rooms with excellent indoor air quality.
