Certified environmental hotel

The Seehotel Wiesler has been committed to environmental compatibility since the mid-1980s. In other words, long before the term "sustainability" became fashionable. As a pioneer, the hotel was certified with EMAS, the world's most comprehensive environmental management system, back in 2006. A little later, in 2014, the Seehotel Wiesler became the first signatory to the KLIMAWIN sustainability initiative of the state of Baden-Württemberg.

Experience sustainability with all your senses

For us as the Wiesler family, sustainability is a matter close to our hearts - and you can feel it with all your senses here with us

See - How our home becomes your home

When we look out of the window in the morning, we see Lake Titisee and the dense forests of the Black Forest - a landscape that has inspired us for generations. This is exactly the feeling we want to give you when you arrive at our hotel.

We have lovingly designed our hotel to reflect the beauty of nature: Wooden furniture made from local silver fir, birch trunks from our own forest and large windows that bring nature into every room. Klaus-Günther has even made sure that the solar thermal system for the swimming pool is discreetly concealed behind the façade - leaving the view free for the essentials: the beauty of our surroundings.

Smell - The scent of the Black Forest

The scent of fresh wood and the clear Black Forest air accompanies us every day. Eva has brought this atmosphere into our Beauty Spa: with the essential oils of our Black Forest massage or the vegan cosmetic range that she has developed herself, you can experience nature intensively with us.

As a climatic health resort on Lake Titisee, we benefit from the pure, clear Black Forest air, which is immediately noticeable to our guests on arrival. However, we not only ensure the best air quality outside, but also inside: we have had our indoor air specifically tested for pollutant emissions - with excellent results. So you can take a deep breath and enjoy the pure freshness of the Black Forest.

"It makes me happy to see how our guests relax with a massage and leave the stress behind them." - Eva Wiesler

Taste - Our home on your plate

Tim lives out his passion in the kitchen - and regionality is his top priority. With over 256 regional and 67 organic products, he brings the Black Forest directly to your plate. Whether it's our homemade Bircher muesli in the morning, the vegan chia coconut pudding or the hearty Black Forest dry-aged beef - every ingredient tells a story.

Our guests love to find out where the products come from on the signs at the buffet. And when you sit at the bar, we invite you to discover the Black Forest gin specialties that we have so carefully selected for you.

"For me, sustainability means telling the stories of our suppliers with every dish." - Tim Wiesler

Listen - Enjoy the peace and quiet of the Black Forest

Sometimes you don't need words to feel nature. When you hear the crackling of the fire in our fireplace lounge or listen to the chirping of the birds outside on the sunbathing lawn, you will feel what we mean.

Klaus-Günther, who has always been a pioneer, taught us that silence is a treasure. That's why we have made a conscious effort to ensure that our spa remains a place of tranquillity. Quiet music is only played in selected areas - the rest belongs to nature. Even in the indoor swimming pool, Klaus-Günther has found a solution that reduces the noise level and saves energy at the same time: the glass wall separates the pool from the sunbathing area so that you can relax there undisturbed.

"For me, it was always important to create places of tranquillity where our guests can really relax." - Klaus-Günther Wiesler

Feel - experience nature up close

When Eva develops a new treatment, she always thinks first about how she can give our guests a piece of home. This is how our Black Forest massage and the cherry massage came about - both are based on regional ingredients that not only care for you, but also give you a feeling of security.

But you won't just feel sustainability in our spa: on the floating loungers by the lake, walking barefoot through the garden or when you touch the smooth surface of our wooden furniture - the connection to nature is evident everywhere.

"For me, the best moment is when guests smile after a treatment and say: 'That was like a piece of the Black Forest for the soul'." - Eva Wiesler

  • Do you enjoy our regional products? Then you are supporting the preservation of our cultural landscape.
  • Do you pay attention to the economical use of resources? This is how we protect the Black Forest together.

And best of all: with 98% fossil-free energy, you save 20 kg of CO₂ with every overnight stay with us compared to a conventional wellness hotel. Sustainability feels good - and really cozy with us.

"Join us and experience how much fun sustainability can be." - Fabian Wiesler

Step by step towards a sustainable future - our history since 1980

Our journey to sustainability

For us, the Wiesler family, sustainability is not just a term, but an attitude that has shaped our actions for over 40 years. With every decision - whether small or large - we have set ourselves the goal of designing our Seehotel in such a way that it is in harmony with nature and at the same time remains a place of well-being for our guests.

This journey began with the visionary ideas of Klaus-Günther Wiesler in the 1980s and is continued today with passion by every member of the family. We are constantly evolving: from the first energy-efficient heating technology to the introduction of regional cuisine and innovative concepts such as recyclable construction.

Join us on our journey through time and find out how we have anchored sustainability step by step in every area of our hotel - always with the aim of preserving the beauty of the Black Forest and making a contribution for future generations.

1980-1985: The first steps towards energy efficiency

"The beginning of a vision."

It all began in the 1980s with an idea from Klaus-Günther Wiesler. As a pioneer in the hotel business, he recognized early on that sustainability was not just a trend, but a responsibility. His vision: to save energy while offering guests maximum comfort.

Important measures:

  • Introduction of the first energy-efficient heating systems in the hotel, which significantly reduced energy consumption.
  • Use of regional wood such as silver fir and spruce for furniture and interior fittings - a first step towards a natural atmosphere.
  • As early as 1984: conversion to green electricity, long before sustainability was on everyone's lips.
Klaus Günther Wieser in the kitchen

"I knew that we couldn't change everything - but I wanted us to get started," says Klaus-Günther Wiesler. "The guests should feel comfortable without nature suffering as a result."

1985-1990: Regionality becomes a philosophy

"From the Black Forest - for the Black Forest."

During this time, the connection to the region became the heart of our philosophy. Klaus-Günther Wiesler began to build up a network of regional producers. Every bite on the plate and every detail in the hotel should tell the story of the Black Forest.

Important measures:

  • Building a network of regional suppliers - from cheese and milk to bread and honey.
  • Introduction of dosing pumps for detergents: consumption fell drastically from 800 kg of powder to just 60 kg of liquid detergent.
  • Guests enjoy jams from the in-house production, which are still a classic today.

1990-1995: Making sustainability visible

"Our guests see, feel and experience sustainability."

Now we wanted to make sustainability visible. From the façade to the pool, a comprehensive redesign of the hotel began, which reduced energy consumption and emphasized the connection to nature.

Important measures:

  • Renewal of the façade insulation, which reduced the heating requirement by 30 %.
  • Installation of a system to backwash the pool with rainwater, saving thousands of liters of drinking water every year.
  • Introduction of seasonal menus with ingredients from the Southern Black Forest Nature Park.

1995-2000: Technology and nature in harmony

"Innovation meets tradition."

With the technological possibilities of the 1990s, we laid the foundations for a sustainable future. The combination of technology and nature became our guiding principle.

Important measures:

  • Introduction of motion sensors for lighting in corridors and communal areas - a simple measure with a big impact.
  • Installation of heat recovery from cooling systems, which further reduced energy consumption.
  • Construction of a retreat area with regional wood that allows guests to connect with nature.
Klaus Günther Wiesler black and white in at the chopping board in the kitchen

"The biggest challenge was to find the right balance," recalls Klaus-Günther Wiesler. "Technology should be efficient, but never take away comfort."

2000-2005: Sustainability becomes part of the DNA

"Learning from the sun."

The beginning of the new millennium marked a turning point: sustainability became not just a strategy, but part of our identity. We invested in renewable energies and expanded our commitment to the environment.

Important measures:

  • Construction of the first solar thermal system, which heats the swimming pool water almost entirely with solar energy.
  • Introduction of an induction stove, which significantly reduced gas consumption.
  • Creation of a flower meadow in front of the hotel to provide a new habitat for native insects.
Eva Wiesler Massage double cabin

2005-2010: Sustainability for the senses

"The Black Forest you can touch."

During this time, sustainability became a sensual experience. Eva Wiesler brought her love of nature into the spa area, and the first in-house cosmetic products were developed.

Important measures:

  • Launch of the vegan cosmetics range "Eva Wiesler", free from microplastics and parabens.
  • Conversion of all light bulbs to LED, reducing electricity consumption in the entire hotel by 20 %.
  • Construction of an insect hotel and introduction of workshops for guests on nature conservation.
Eva Wiesler vegan cosmetics cherry body lotion

"Our guests love the connection to nature - whether it's a massage with Black Forest fir oil or a view of our flower meadow," says Eva Wiesler.

2010-2020: Guests become part of the vision

"Sustainable together."

This decade was characterized by cooperation with our guests. We not only made sustainability tangible, but also invited them to actively participate.

Important measures:

  • Introduction of the "Klimateller" for guests traveling in an environmentally friendly way - a menu with a particularly low carbon footprint.
  • Development of a compost system that transforms kitchen waste into valuable humus.
  • Informing guests about the CO₂ emissions they save during their stay - with a personal CO₂ certificate.

"Sustainability is not a one-way street," explains Anna Wiesler. "We wanted to invite our guests to become part of this journey."

2020-2025: Circular economy and visions for tomorrow

"Closing the circle."

Today, we are even more conscious of sustainability: we focus on the circular economy, regional exchange and innovative ideas to make our hotel fit for the future.

Important measures:

  • Introduction of the "Green Button", which guests can use to cancel room cleaning in order to save resources.
  • Construction of the Inara Suites, which are built entirely according to the principles of circular construction.
  • Installation of charging points for electric cars to promote climate-friendly mobility.
Suite Life Style bedside lamp

"Our journey is far from over," says Fabian Wiesler. "We dream of a hotel that gives more back to nature than it takes."

A look into the future: our goals for 2030

"What we do today determines tomorrow."

Our vision is to become a completely energy self-sufficient hotel by 2030 - using only fossil-free, renewable energy. We not only want to cover our own energy requirements, but also find innovative ways to invest surplus energy in sustainable projects.

Our goals for 2030:

  • Energy self-sufficiency: cover 100% of our energy requirements from renewable and fossil-free sources through a combination of solar energy, wood chip heating, wood chip CHP and other innovative technologies.
  • Strengthen the circular economy: implement renovations and new buildings according to the principles of circularity - without waste, without wastefulness.
  • Create awareness: Continue to actively involve guests in our sustainability strategy and inspire them to integrate this attitude into their everyday lives.
